Maggie Stiefvater is absolutely incomparable. This, unsurprisingly, is one of the reasons she’s one of my absolute favorite authors. Ballad isn’t my favorite of her books (that honor goes to The Raven Boys, although I also love the Scorpio Races and the Shiver trilogy). Despite that, I found parts that spoke to me to the point where I had to jot them down or find some way of keeping them so I wouldn’t ever forget them.
I think any writer can relate to this. We will live forever because of our words. Because of them, we’ve been immortalized. This short poem from Ballad captures that idea so simply and beautifully.

I completely agree with you on Maggie Stiefvater. Her writing is amazing! It all comes together perfectly and keeps me turning the page but still cherishing each moment. I am reading “Lament” currently.

I currently finished reading the Shiver trilogy and “Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception”. Are her other books this good (or better)?
I like her other books better than Lament/Ballad. The Scorpio Races is fantastic. The first book I read by her is her newest: The Raven Boys. Something about that book has me obsessed and desperately wanting to know what happens next. I think it starts off a little slowly (I was so impatient for two characters to meet, and it seemed to take forever!) but it gets good. The sequel (The Dream Thieves) is coming out this September, and I have it preordered because I’m so excited!!
Yes, Lament was okay. Not as good as the Shiver trilogy though. And my best friend also said The Scorpio Races started out slow (she quit on it). However, I will have patience. I am fixing to head to the library to get another one of her books!
